27 September 2010Crispin Beaumont and Nick Wilson from Bartley Sailing Club where crowned RYA RS Feva Zone champions 2010 at Ulswater last weekend. The pair who have only been sailing together for two week mastered the shifty condition and showed a level of consistency that the rest of the fleet could not match. During the races the lead boats were constantly changing as the wind filled in or dropped in different parts of the lake but as each race drew to a close the lads always managed to get themselves front of the fleet securing a string of good results. For the final race of the event the race course was moved down the lake due to the wind conditions. The lads had already used their discard on first day when they had equipment failure, so they had to finish the final race no more than three places behind a boat from Carssington. A bad start and and wind shift on the first beat saw them round the first windward mark in second to last place. But by lap three they had clawed their way back to cross the line in second and take the event. |
